Compass - Mexican Institute Of Sound + Toy Selectah

Six Degrees

What kind of idiot would erect a wall between us and the artistic revolucion that is exploding in Mexico, especially in the musical hotbeds of Monterrey and Mexico City? While its influence and impact may be lost on the Trumpian troglodytes it’s caught the attention of the pre-eminent label in contemporary global music, Six Degrees who ecstatically present Compass by Mexican Institute Of Sound  + Toy Selectah, fulfilling a mission to bring artists together in the name of great music. This jam-packed compilation is without doubt one of the strongest releases of the year and the Mexican team of Camilo Lara and Toy Selecta is an essential but foundational base for this global-reaching project. More than 90 artists from around the planet lend their talents to what Mexican Institute of Sound’s Lara calls, “a mystical quest trying to prove that there is only one dance floor across the globe.” Indeed, Trump supporters would have a hard time figuring out how to line-dance to this shit, but that’s their problem. The rest of us can look forward to 13 tracks to shake what your mama gave ya, bolting out of the blocks with Municipal with the wired and wonderful Eugene Hutz from Gogol Bordello introducing what he calls, “The Vegas Pharrell style”. And, Compass is only getting started. This is truly a border-bending release recorded in New York, Los Angeles, London and São Paulo with additional stops in Kingston, Tokyo, Beijing, New Delhi, Monterrey Mexico and Mexico City. Red Bull chronicled the process for a documentary which will appear on Red Bull channels. Apparently, Red Bull gives you wings along with a tremor- inducing jolt of caffeine. Necessary product-placement aside, there are also amazing tunes like Crazy Conscious featuring Toots Hibbert, Mercurias on Canta Si Medo, Jota from Los Planetas on the hilariously titled Vic Vaporub, Galician-influenced Crystal Fighters with Yo La Vi and, a much appreciated re-surfacing of Bonde Do Role on Bonde Do Compass from Brazil. Consider Compass an essential for your party mix and remember the universe itself exists because of vibrations and vibrations have the power to bring down walls.
