Fast Paced World - The Duhks

Sugar Hill

It’s a fast paced world but The Duhks seem to have a natural instinct to float above the commotion. Or, more to the point, they’re up to the challenge. The band quickly follows the release of an EP called ‘This Fall’ with a new album, Fast Paced World and a new line up featuring a set of siblings... one family, two new Duhks, with singer Sarah Dugas and drummer Christian Dugas. With the new energy, the band is pushing the creativity and potential of their musical horizons further still. And, yes, the pace has been frenetic for the rowdy roots band since they were adopted by the music fraternity in Nashville (who could resist a brood of duhks?). Striking up valuable friendships with other new grass and non- trad Celts like Solas and sharing gumbo with stompin' Cajuns, The Red Stick Ramblers have set the Winnipegers swimming in the right pond to bring greater exposure to their craft. Plus, The Duhks aren’t just following in formation; they’re breaking new ground, leading by example a new green and sustainable approach to life on the road through their Greenduhks initiatives. Even the CD jacket is made from recycled paper with soy-based ink. Fast Paced reflects the new blood in the band. Sarah Dugas in particular has stepped up the plate and added new song stylings and a bold, sexy swagger. Check out their evocative video for the title track accompanying this review.
