En Este Camino - Pistolera

Luchadora

The road has sharpened Pistolera's aim. Since the release of their debut, Siempre Hay Salida, this ranchera rockin' New York quartet has been nailing bulls eyes on stage, playing major events like the Montreal Jazz Festival, Central Park Summer Stage and the San Jose International Mariachi Festival; sharing the bill with Latin legends and bright lights like Los Lobos, Lila Downs, Kinky, Mexican Institute of Sound and Ely Guerra. The resulting connections have earned them cred and collaboration in the right camps. It all bode well for their follow-up recording, En Este Camino. Production by Grammy Award winner, Charlie Dos Santos puts polish on the accomplished playing and gives added bite to the politically-charged content of Sandra Velasquez' writing. Make no mistake. Pistolera is a party, with farting tubas, chugging accordions and great guests from Si*Se, Antibalas, Grupo Fantasma and Slavic Soul Party. But, the very real problems at the Mexican border, immigration issues and female strength are eloquently explored with every bouncy note. After all, Sandra is her mother's daughter (renowned San Diego immigration lawyer, Lilia Velasquez). En Este Camino is everything that's great about contemporary global music; conscious, crafted and charismatic. Key Tracks: Un Momento, Policia
