There's not a band that explores the outer realms and the hidden origins of Celtic music to the degree of the Afrocelts. For their fourth release, Seed, available this month on RealWorld, they've dropped the Sound System surname and deliver their leanest, grooviest album to date. The title track is mesmerizing. Guitarist, Simon Emmerson taps into one of the most spell-binding riffs of rock's past twenty years, Johnny Marr's twangy tremolo from the Smiths' classic, "How Soon Is Now". African voices float atop a swirling pulse with punctuations of uillean pipes and whistles; it just doesn't get any more intoxicating than this.
